Our school takes part in The British Council and Confucius Institute Mandarin teaching project. Each year we have a specialist Mandarin teacher who supports all of our children from Year 1 upwards. This year we have welcomed Miss Stacey who has joined us from China and teaches in school every afternoon. Miss Stacey also offers two Mandarin after-school clubs for Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2.
Please see below a range of interactive videos which support the children in there learning of Mandarin. We use an array of teaching resources to enable the children to learn, retain and enjoy!
Foreign Languages - Mandarin
“The limits of my language are the limits of my world.” Ludwig Wittgenstein
The National Curriculum expectation for FL is that all pupils learn one language from Year 3 onwards. Here at Prendergast Primary, all pupils have the opportunity to learn Mandarin as our chosen foreign language from Reception.
We are fortunate to have pupils from diverse culture backgrounds and believe that this is a wonderful opportunity for children to learn more about other countries, while strengthening their sense of identity.
To develop the ability to speak in a Foreign Language.
To gain confidence in speaking, listening, reading and writing in a foreign language.
To discover the cultural aspects of China.
Mandarin lessons are very interactive. Children learn Mandarin through weekly lessons using videos, songs and games to promote participation and ensure enjoyment.
