Supporting special educational needs in school
At Prendergast Primary all learners are supported and encouraged to reach their full potential through a range of activities, subjects and learning styles. Learning is individualised to meet the needs of the learner however there are some cases where children still find it challenging to access learning. In this instance, children are invited to meet with the class teacher to discuss any difficulties encountered and any adjustments that can be made to support individual needs.
Where children require more support, parents can meet with the SENCO (Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator) who can offer further advice and support. Children may be assessed in school or by outside agencies to support individual needs of children with a varying level of need. Children can be assessed for dyslexia, dyscalculia and speech and language needs.
Other facts may also be preventing children from learning and in these cases, parents are advised on an individual need for their child. Several children are supported in school with special needs such as ASD, dyslexia, dyscalculia, speech and language, social and emotional needs. IF you would like to discuss the needs of your child, please contact the class teacher or SENCO through the school office.
