We are proud to offer Arts Award to all children at Prendergast Primary. Arts Award inspires young people to grow their arts and leadership talents: it's creative, valuable and accessible.
Arts Award can be achieved at five levels, four qualifications and an introductory award (Discover).
As children grow older and develop preferences for different art forms or begin to specialise in their own skills, they can continue to progress through the Arts Award levels. Arts Award is open to children and young people right up to the age of 25. Children at our school will usually begin by completing the Discover level.
To achieve an Arts Award Discover, children and young people collect evidence in an individual arts log of their experiences of three main areas: participating in arts activities, researching artists and their work and sharing their arts discoveries.
In 2017, supported by Lewisham Education Arts Network (LEAN), twenty children completed their first Arts Award at Prendergast Primary and after receiving a standing ovation for their performance at Catford Broadway Theatre, we couldn’t stop there!
We will be offering Arts Award in an increasing range of ways- through extra-curricular clubs rehearsing for a special local or National event, as part of school-wide Arts weeks or running alongside a Unit of Work within a year group’s topic.
The great thing about Arts Award is its breadth. Through Arts Award's five levels, children can explore any art form including performing arts, visual arts, literature, media and multimedia.
The award builds confidence, helps young people to enjoy cultural activities, and prepares them for further education or employment.
