New Reception Admissions for September 2021
Welcome to new and prospective Reception families
This is an extremely exciting time to join Prendergast Primary. We opened in September 2014 and now have a full cohort of children up to Year 6. As the school has grown we have become increasingly popular with local families. Through word of mouth in the local community, our reputation as a caring, family school ‘at the heart of the community’ has grown, with excellent feedback from parents. Our school has been described as ‘a hidden gem’, with our 2019 Ofsted inspection praising our outstanding Early Years provision for its ‘resourceful, rich environment inside and outside the classroom which inspires pupils to be creative in their play and learning.’
Being part of Prendergast Ladywell 'through-school', all of our Year 6 pupils automatically receive a place in Year 7 in our co-educational secondary phase. The Leathersellers' Federation of schools also offer Sixth Form provision at Prendergast School at Hilly Fields. We are therefore fortunate to be able to follow our pupils' journeys from young child to young adult.
Creativity and a focus on the arts has become one of the strengths of our school – with teachers taking part in action research to develop creativity in our curriculum. We have highly specialist music, dance and drama teachers, giving our children the opportunity to access the arts from the very beginning of their school career. Reception children have performed as part of our choir at the Blackheath Halls, as well as taking part in Lewisham Live where our dance club took starring parts in ‘The Dance of the Cygnets’ from Swan Lake. We are an Arts Award Centre and have two trained Arts Award Advisors on our staff, who facilitate our pupils' involvement in Arts Award. Arts Award inspires young people to grow their arts and leadership talents; it's creative, valuable and accessible.
As a school, we also offer ‘wrap-around’ care from 7.30am to 6pm via Honeybees After School Club which is based on our site.

We continue to monitor for new information. Please check this page regularly for updates.

This provides you with further information about the process for hearing appeals:
- The person from whom appeal forms are available is the Office Manager – Admissions.
- During the continuing pandemic, appeal forms will be available to download here:
- Special arrangements are in place to download the appeal form during 2020-21, because schools continue to respond to government guidelines to help reduce the further spread of COVID-19 and protect our community. For Starting School entry in September 2021, an applicant who has been informed by the school that they have the right of appeal may download the school's appeal form from this website at the above link.
- Completed forms with supporting documents should be submitted by the deadline. You may submit your completed form and documents via email: PriAdmissions@prendergast-ladywell.com
- The person to whom completed appeal forms should be addressed is to The Clerk to the Independent Appeal Panel c/o the school (email or envelope to be clearly marked APPEALS).
- Appellants will receive reasonable notice of their appeal hearing and other deadlines, such as deadlines for submitting additional evidence.
- Decision letters will be sent within a reasonable period from the date of appeal.
- Waiting lists: If you do not receive an offer of admission to this school on National Offer Day 2021, and are offered a place at a lower preference school instead, your child's name will automatically be placed on the Starting School waiting list for this school.
If you are moving into the area or are interested in joining our school at any point other than the usual admission point into Reception then you will need to complete an in-year common application form. You can find further information here:
Please put the following dates in your diary:

Thursday 16th April 2021 – National Offer Day
If you have been offered a place at Prendergast Primary School and would like to accept your offer, please do so via the Lewisham Council website. The deadline for accepting your place is Friday 30th April 2021. We require you to complete our induction documentation and return to us via email, post or in person by TBA. We will also need to see original copies of your child’s birth certificate, passport (if they have one) and a utility bill less than 3 months old. Please do not post original documents.
June/July 2021 – Taster Sessions/Welcome to New Families
We are curently working on our Transition programme for children starting school in September 2021. Our usual programme involves a range of events including taster sessions in our Reception setting, a family picnic and Welcome Events for parents/carers. In Summer 2020 we had to adapt our usual programme to suit lockdown life; we developed a bank of 'starting school' online resources for families, including a recommended book list, transition activity suggestions, All About Me jigsaws and storytime videos. We also created a virtual tour of the EYFS environment. Whatever the context of 2021, we will do our best to provide some familiar events and experiences to support the children in their transition to primary school. Please look out for further information in 2021.
Wednesday 1st September onwards - Home Visits/Virtual Home Visits
Your child’s class teacher will visit you and your child at home during this week. The purpose of this visit is for your child to get to know us better in their home environment and for the class teacher to find out a little bit more about their likes and dislikes, which will help them to settle quickly into school life. In 2020, we conducted virtual home visits via video call, which were very successful. Once offered a place, we will contact parents/carers regarding the arrangements for home visits in 2021.
Week Commencing 13th September 2021 - Reception Children Start School
Your child will start school one day during this week – we stagger the start dates for Reception children across the week to allow them a calm and high quality transition - you will be advised of your child(ren)'s start date nearer the time.
